Correspondence; campaign financial records, including bank statements and treasurer's reports; speeches; press releases; and other papers, related chiefly to Joseph T. Meek's 1954 campaign for the U.S. Senate against Senator Paul H. Douglas. The collection also includes materials pertaining to Meek's activities as president of the Illinois Retail Merchants Association. The papers partially relate to efforts to censure Senator Joseph R. McCarthy, the proposed Bricker Amendment, foreign aid, farm policy, the Eisenhower administration's lack of popularity among conservative elements in the Republican Party, and ideological divisions within the Illinois Republican Party. Correspondents include Everett M. Dirksen and C. Wayland Brooks. Mr. Meek resided in Western Springs, Illinois.
